Before you buy organic beauty products online, we recommend that you go through the organic skin care products buying guide in order to form an in-depth idea and clear concept about the products available.
Organic skin care products have revolutionized the way we take care of the skin. But how many of us are actually aware of how it helps us. Don’t go by what the advertisements are saying, judge for yourself before you go ahead and buy. Our skin is the biggest organ in our body and it is the most exposed part as well. Dirt, dust, grime – all these are continuously affecting our skin on a daily basis. To overcome the harmful effects of these elements we use diverse cosmetic products to improve the quality of the skin. But do these products really bring about the change that we are so desperately looking? In my journey towards healthy living, I have seen and observed that a lot depends on not only what you eat but also on what you apply on your skin.
Our skin tends to absorb 60% of what we put on it. According to the statistics shared by Environmental Working Group, average working women use 12 different types of beauty products. And if we calculate the amount of ingredients used in these products, it will easily amount to 168 different chemicals. That is a huge amount of chemicals that you are applying in your face and this can really prove to be toxic.
Just check out the beauty product advertisements. Almost all of them claim to make you look younger by 10 years, improve your skin quality, hide your imperfections and make you appealing. But have you ever wondered at what cost?

Today we are going to discuss
various things about organic skin care products and act as you organic skin care products buying guide so
that you have a clear idea and clear concept of what you are getting into. But
before we go ahead and do so, let us take a look at what the beauty industry is
up to and what they are hiding from us:
What are the Common Myths surrounding natural organic skincare products?
It is safe because it is sold in the stores…
Many of us think and believe that
just because a cosmetic product is being sold at the market it is safe. It does
not matter whether it is organic or not. But this is completely a mistaken
concept. The Food and Drug Administration of USA does not specify any
particular safety standards for cosmetics. This is quite scary. It means that
all those cosmetics displayed in the shelf can be loaded with toxic formulas
that can be quite damaging for your skin.
It is not “ok” even if the label says so…
Don’t jump into conclusions and
belief what the manufacturer is saying about the products. Just because certain
terms are not mentioned in the product it does not necessarily mount to be a
safe one. There are many products that do not mention the words “formaldehyde
or parabens”, but, that dores not mean that it is free of it. Do you know that
the term “fragrance” mentioned in the product indirectly mention that it
contains the harmful parabens. There are so many loopholes; you need to be
aware of it in order to locate it.
Your favorite brand promotes “breast cancer” safety measurements and
swears by “pink” – they are really safe and offer must buy products, isn’t it?
– You could not have been more wrong!
Sadly, this is not so. Did you
know that popular cosmetic giants like Avon, Estee Lauder and Revlon use harmful
ingredients like toxins and carcinogens in their entire range of cosmetic
products and yet they contribute thousands of dollars for breast cancer cure? It
is really an oxymoron situation. The ingredients present in their product can
actually be the reasons behind the occurrence of breast cancer.
Hence, we recommend that you read
through the label of ingredients to know more about the “organic”, “natural” or
“fragrance-free” before you formulate the conclusions. Following are the terms
that you need to know and be aware of:
Thimerosol: Studies have shown that it contains mercury which can
cause skin irritation, allergies and can also affect the nervous system. They
are generally used in cosmetic products designed for the eye area like contact
lens solutions, eye drops and so on.
DMDM Hydantoin/ Imidazolidinyl Urea /Diazolidinyl Urea: This
ingredient produces formaldehyde. It is a carcinogen that leads to joint pain,
ear infections, depression, chest pains, dizziness and loss of sleep, chronic
fatigue, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate. It is generally found
in hair / body care products like shampoos body washes.
Benzyl Alcohol and Isopropyl Alcohol: They are found in fragrance ingredients like hand sanitizers, sunscreens,
and baby wipes and even sunscreens. As these products are mainly applied on the
skin it tends to cause screen irritations.
1,4-Dioxane: It is again found in shampoos, soaps, children’s bath
products and is referred to as a
probable carcinogen by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Parabens: It can lead to breast tumors.
“Fragrance”: A vague term, it can have many ingredients concealed
under it. Prominent amongst them is the phthalates which is found in PVC pipes.
This can damage your endocrine system.

I'm not a scientist! Where do I even begin?
"You don't need to be perfect when it comes to skin care or anything
else in your life," Fishman said. She suggests doing some research to
find where you stand and then avoiding any chemicals that give you
pause.
And be aware of "fragrance" when it's listed as an ingredient. It's considered a trade secret so manufacturers do not legally need to disclose of what it is comprised. So if you're at all concerned about chemical exposure, it's important to be aware.
